For several years Summerville has been able to claim to be one of Georgia’s “Safest Cities” according to SafeWise comparisons and rankings. The City of Summerville has listed the designation of being the fifth safest city in Georgia in 2020 on its website.

The city is no longer on that list, but it doesn’t mean that there has been an increase in crime.

The Summerville News reported this week that SafeWise only uses statistics for towns and cities with populations over 5,000 people.  The official count for the City of Summerville is currently 4,363 residents.

SafeWise says that most cities with populations of less than 5,000 are rural and do not have a high crime rate.
