We have had some hot days this summer, and we will have more; but the National Weather Service says that we can expect lower than normal temperatures for this time of the year in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama.

According to data from the Chattooga County School System’s Weatherlink System, we have only seen temperatures in the 90 degree-range a few times since the first of June.  What is even more interesting is the low temperatures.  Last month’s low temperature was 57 degrees on June 17th at 7 AM.  This month, we had our lowest temperature so far on July 4th at  7 AM when the temperature was recorded at 56 degrees.  Some areas of the county had temperatures hovering right at the 50 degree mark on the 4th of July.

The National Weather Services’s Climate Prediction Center is predicting below average temperatures between now and July 25th.

If you are one that follows the Old Farmer’s Almanac, you will notice that they are pretty much spot-on this year.  According to the Almanac, that has been predicting weather since 1818, “Summer will be cooler and rainier than normal.” And if you believe the Almanac, we are in for a cooler than normal late-summer and early- fall as well.
