The Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority (JDA) is working with Chattooga County officials to help the soon-to-be displaced workers from Showa Glove Mill in Menlo.

Workers at the seventy-year-old mill were told recently that production at the Menlo facility would come to an end. The move by Showa will leave around eighty workers without a job.

Spencer Hogg, Project Manager for the Northwest Georgia JDA tells WZQZ News that they are coordinating with the Georgia Department of Labor, the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce, the City of Menlo, and the Chattooga County Commissioner’s Office to make sure that workers have the resources they need to find new jobs.

Senator Jeff Mullis, who serves at the President and CEO of the JDA says, “My office and the Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority want to serve as a resource to all of those effected by the news (from Showa).”

The Northwest Georgia JDA says that as soon as there is a date set for a job fair for Showa workers, they will notify local media.
