The State of Georgia Cannabis Commission awarded six licenses to companies to manufacture and distribute medicinal marijuana in the state, but some of the companies that missed out on the licenses aren’t happy with the results.

There are a handful of medical marijuana companies that didn’t get a license that are considering suing the state over the selection process.  But according to an attorney with the Georgia Cannabis Trade Association, a lawsuit probably won’t go very far.

Remedium Life Sciences, who planned to build a facility in Trion, has not made any public comments.

Sanford Posner, an attorney and founding member of the organization, told the Chattanooga Times-Free Press that it is likely that the cannabis commission favored multi-state distributors because they have a proven track record of providing for patients.

There is a good chance that the state legislature will consider adding to the number of licenses. The General Assembly is expected to discuss the issue in the 2022 legislative session.
