Coach Jeff Bennett is a legend when it comes to high school sports in Chattooga County. Earlier this month, Coach Bennett announced that he was retiring after this year.
Chattooga High School surprised “Coach B”, as he is affectionately known, by naming the new softball field in his honor. The ceremony naming the field was followed up by Coach Bennett’s 400th career softball win.
Over this past weekend, The Chattanooga Times-Free Press featured an article about Coach Bennett’s lengthy coaching career at both Trion and Chattooga High Schools.
Referencing the softball field being named in his honor, Bennett told the Chattanooga paper, “It was a huge shock, and it’s an honor. I had no idea it was coming but it does mean a lot to me, you know, to see that. I’ve spent a lot of time out on the fields around here.”
