In a unanimous decision on Thursday evening, the Chattooga Board of Education selected Spencer Hogg to replace Dr. Julia Houston, representing the Lyerly District on the board.

For the second time in less than twelve months, the Chattooga BOE was faced with a decision to select a new member. Last year, Sam Ballard passed away and the board selected former Menlo School Principal and Young Farmer Advisor Lyn Hall to take Mr. Ballard’s place, representing the Menlo District.

Six candidates put their name in the hat to be selected for the most recent vacancy – three women and three men.  Those submitting their applications were: Charles Cooper, Wendy Cordle, Bonnie Fletcher, Spencer Hogg, Morgan Reynolds and Ron Williams.

At Thursday evening’s meeting, Board Vice-Chair Brad Hayes made the motion to select Spencer Hogg.  The move was seconded by Board Member B.J. Montgomery and passed unanimously.

After his appointment to the board, Mr. Hogg said, “I am extremely humbled and honored to have been selected tonight as the Lyerly District representative on the Chattooga County Board of Education. I appreciate the faith my peers have placed in me. I look forward to working as a team with the fantastic administrators and teachers in our system for the betterment of our children’s futures. I am extremely excited to serve the school and county that have given me so much. “
