An Alabama man’s attempt to outrun the law ended on 7th Avenue in Menlo on Saturday night after he crashed his vehicle into a wooded area.

A Cherokee County, Alabama deputy attempted to make a routine traffic stop on Highway 68, near Highway 273 in Leesburg when the driver fled at a high rate of speed.  Leesburg Police joined in the chase which went over 20 miles and ended in Chattooga County, Georgia.

After crashing his vehicle, a Georgia State Trooper took forty-two-year-old Jarret Lonnie Thomas of a Lakeside Drive, Centre address into custody.

Georgia officials charged Thomas with driving too fast for conditions, expired tag, no proof of insurance, failure to maintain a single lane, driving on suspended or revoked license, and removing or affixing a tag with intent to conceal or misrepresent.

Thomas also had outstanding warrants and will be facing additional charges related to the chase in Cherokee County.

As of Monday, he was being held in the Chattooga County Jail on a hold for Cherokee County, Alabama.
