Kasen Elsberry has somewhat of a tradition at the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair.  The Menlo School eighth-grader has had a lot of success growing prize-winning pumpkins for several years, and this year was no exception.

Kasen has entered his pumpkins in the fair every year since 2015 and has won blue-ribbons for his pumpkins each year.  This year is no exception.   Also, Elsberry has placed “Best of Show” twice, including this year’s fair. Kasen harvest the seeds from the prize-winning pumpkin the previous year and plants them.  Other than that, he says his secret to growing nice big pumpkins is to “leave it alone and hope it rains.”

Kasen is the son of Eddie and Cindi Elsberry and is in his final year at Menlo School.

Each year, the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair’s Blue Ribbon Department features a wide-variety of locally-produce, home-canned goods, art, photography and horticulture.  Ribbons are awarded in several different categories, and for several different age groups from youth to seniors.
