A seventy-year-old man from Tennessee was arrested in Floyd County over the weekend after he got into a conversation with a woman who was wearing a mask inside the West Rome Wal-Mart. According to Floyd County Police reports, David Pete Slaby got into a discussion about COVID-19 with the woman, whom he did not know, and is accused of pulling out a knife from his back pocket and threatening to cut the woman’s mask off her face.  The woman said that Slaby was waving the knife around in a threatening manner while arguing about her mask.

When Floyd County Police made contact with Slaby he told them, “I know what this is about.”  Slaby corroborated the woman’s story, but told police he was “just joking.”

Slaby was charged with aggravated assault and booked into the Floyd County Jail.
