A well-known and loved Chattooga County veteran of World War II passed away on Tuesday morning.
Billy Locklear received the Purple Heart and many other medals for his service in WWII. He served between 1943 and 1945, which included fighting at the Battle of Saipan in June 1944.
Just last month, Mr. Locklear celebrated his 96th birthday.
Mr. Locklear served in the United States Marine Corps between 1943 and 1945, which included fighting at the Battle of Saipan in June 1944.
