Many schools across Georgia closed on Friday, giving students a four-day weekend during this Labor Day Holiday.  School officials are hoping that the move will help with the COVID-19 cases that are on the rise across many school districts.

At least nineteen school districts in Georgia have already moved to all virtual learning because of an increase in the number of students with COVID.   In addition to concerns about the health and safety of students, many districts have so many staff and teachers with COVID, that they simply cannot operate at this time.

Locally, both the Trion School District and the Chattooga County School District closed their doors on Friday.  Local school officials say that they were using the extra day off as a day for deep cleaning and disinfecting of facilities.  Also, the extra day is meant to give more time for students to be apart to help mitigate the spread of COVID.

Local students return to class on Tuesday of this week.
