A Chattooga County man was attacked and bitten last week while out for a walk on Highland Avenue with his small dog.

Summerville Police Officers were dispatched to Highland Avenue near the Summerville Cemetery last week in reference to a dog attack. Arriving on scene Officers saw that a man was straddling a white and brindle bulldog, and that the man, identified as Jonathan Peyton, was bleeding from his right arm. While waiting for Animal Services and the Fire Department to arrive with extra help, the dog began to act in an aggressive manner again toward Peyton. At this point Officers felt it best to attempt and neutralize the threat of the bulldog causing even further harm and so shot the dog once in the upper shoulder, which allowed Peyton to finally let go of the dog and get medical attention form EMS.

After being treated for his wounds, Officers were able to speak with Peyton and several witnesses who all stated the same version of events. Peyton stated that he was walking his small dog on a leash when approaching Highland Ave the bulldog attacked him. The dog hit him in the chest and rolled him, where he proceeded to bite him. Peyton was able to provide Officers with pictures of his injuries.

The dogs owner, Justin Sisson was located and when he and Animal Services arrived, the decision was made to transport the bulldog to the Summerville Vet Clinic.  At the Vet Clinic it was determined that the attacking dog was not up to date on its shots, and a decision was made by Sisson to put the dog down. Testing will be sent off for rabies and Sisson was issued a leash law citation as a result of the attack.
