A Haywood Valley woman called the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office this week after someone from a toll free number called her and attempted to get her to send them $1ooo.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the complainant called the sheriff’s office after receiving a disturbing call from someone who said that they were from a credit agency.  The person on the line told the woman to send $1000 or a warrant would be put out for her arrest.

The number that called was 855-216-9221 and the scammer gave the complainant a “case number.”  When a responding deputy attempted to call the number, the scammers quickly hung up on the conversation.

Remember, you should never send money or give out personal information to unsolicited callers over the phone and no one will issue a warrant for your arrest if you fail to do so.
