Georgia still lags behind most of the nation for the number of people being vaccinated against COVID-19, but there have been some gains in the past few days.  Here in Northwest Georgia, the past week has seen more than 4,000 people receive the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Chattooga County has made some improvement, with 32% of the population fully vaccinated.  The additional first-doses last week will make that number go up as people get their second dose within the next two weeks.  Still, Chattooga County lags behind neighboring counties.  As of Friday, Floyd County lead the Northwest Georgia region with a 38% vaccination rate.  Gordon County has a rate of 33% and 34% of Walker County residents have been fully vaccinated.

Neighboring Cherokee County in Alabama has a vaccination rate of 33% and DeKalb County, Alabama has a rate of 35%.

Free vaccines are available at local pharmacies and the Chattooga County Health Department.
