Georgia’s Medical Cannabis Committee met last week and one of the questions that lawmakers are dealing with is what role the Georgia Department of Agriculture should play in cannabis production in Georgia.
While it isn’t likely that cannabis will soon be a cash-crop like cotton or soybeans, there are some lawmakers on the committee that are advocating for the Department of Agriculture to step up and play a role in Georgia’s medical cannabis production.
Georgia Ag Commissioner Gary Black has been a strong supporter of hemp farming, but he is less enthusiastic about a joint venture with the cannabis oil business.
Other states are involving their agricultural departments in the medical cannabis business – most notably the State of Utah.
The Georgia Medical Cannabis Commission shared at last week’s meeting that they look forward to expanding on this idea as more meetings gear up.
