Calhoun Police issued a warning about counterfeit money which is an ongoing problem, and as technology progresses, it will only get worse. There are several websites available that will show you what to look for when accepting US Currency.

The most common things to look for is the holographic image on the note, and the security strip that’s embedded in the note. Make sure the hologram matches the portrait on the note and that the security strip shows the correct denomination. Watch out for faded Bill’s and for Bill’s that are poorly cropped. If you have a bright light available, you will see blue and red fibers embedded in a legal note.

Dont rely heavily on the “starch” pens, because they are only accurate about 40 percent of the time. If you receive a counterfeit bill or if you have questions concerning counterfeit money, call local law enforcement.
