A longtime familiar voice in Northwest Georgia passed away this past week.  Randy Davis, owner of WLAQ in Rome, suffered a fall in Rome and this week, passed away from the injuries. 

Davis owned WLAQ for over 30 years, and he and his partners purchased the old WGTA AM and WATG FM radio stations in Summerville.

Davis was passionate about sports and started his broadcast career doing play-by-play for WROM in Rome.  He was instrumental in getting Rome’s – Atlanta Braves farm team to move to the area.  Davis was inducted into the Rome-Floyd County Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. Davis was a Heart of the Community Award recipient and was a past Grand Marshal of the Rome Christmas Parade.

He is survived by his wife Sandy, his son Matt and daughter Elizabeth, who have also made their careers in radio.
