When the Chattooga Indians traveled to Coosa High School on Friday evening, there were some who were concerned about how things would go after tensions ran high all last week at Coosa concerning alleged “racial incidents” at the school.

There were Chattooga parents and school officials who were cautious about the trip to Coosa after a racially-charged video was circulated earlier this week at the Floyd County School.  The Floyd County School system had extra law enforcement patrol on hand for Friday’s football game between Chattooga and Coosa, and there were extra law enforcement officers from Chattooga County at the game as well.

There were no incident reported from Friday night’s game, in which Chattooga defeated Coosa 40-3.

On Saturday, the Rome Branch of the NAACP held a “listening session” for concerned Coosa High School students and parents.  The meeting was held at the New Life of St. John Baptist Church and organizers said that the purpose of the meeting was to get a “clear understanding” of the situation at Coosa.

Sara Malone, the Chair of the Rome Branch of the NAACP said the organization has been concerned about alleged racial incidents at Coosa for sometime.  In fact, the local chapter of the NAACP had sent a letter to Floyd County School officials in March about the incidents.
