A local woman has reported that her Wal-Mart shopping app was hacked for almost $1,000 recently.
Tammy Laverne Norton contacted the Summerville Police Department last week regarding a case of stolen identity. According to Norton she had been informed that Wal-Mart account had been hacked, and a purchase totaling $991.15 had been made. The hacker had used the account to purchase a new PlayStation 5. The item had been shipped to a Amberly Warner located at 10223 Towneway Drive in South El Monte, California. Norton told Officers that she did not know this person or this address. She had already been in contact with both Wal-Mart and her financial institution in an attempt to recover the funds, and she was requesting a report be made and placed on file. Officers advised Norton to continue working with her financial institution regarding the money due to the fraudulent transaction. Officers also advised that the matter would be turned over to Investigations at the Department.
