The country music group Alabama has been singing and touring for over fifty years, and recently band front-man Randy Owen announced that his bandmate and cousin, Jeff Cook, would no longer be touring with him and their cousin Teddy Gentry.
Cook, who is 72-years-old, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease several years ago, and continued to tour and perform with the group. But the effects of the disease have made it so he can no longer keep appearing with Alabama.
“We miss Jeff at every show,” Owen says. “He was such a force in our band with lead guitar, fiddle, keyboards and high harmony. We got three musicians to replace him with his approval and blessing. His Parkinson’s has made it extremely difficult for him to play guitar and fiddle anymore. We ask every night for the fans to keep Jeff in their prayers.”
Regarding those fans, Owen notes, “We owe the group’s longevity to three generations of the most loyal fans in the world. They have supported us through good and tough times.”
