The Chattooga County Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday of last week.

Mr. John Worsham gave the board an update on the new stadium lights at The Little Big Horn/Buddy Windle Field, the project is complete and looks great.

Also, work is going well at Menlo. The new school will be a beautiful building with a beautiful view. The new roof at Summerville Middle School is still underway. The delay is in supplies and the shortage of one particular supply. Finally, Mr. Hayes asked about an update on the proposed tennis facility price. The last price was higher than the first bid. So, the board is willing to continue a “wait and see “ or look at other options.

Superintendent Hosmer continued to inform and update the board on Cares Act money, money coming from the state during and following COVID. Superintendent Hosmer and his staff have been working hard to “give back” to our teachers and staff for working so hard these last 2 to two and a half years. Mrs. Helie also gave the board updates on the most recent ACT, SAT scores and graduation rates.

Brad Hayes, Vice-Chair of the Chattooga County Board of Education told WZQZ News, “The county school system is blessed with great teachers and workers, and they deserve the praise and rewards. We have a lot of great things going on in the system. Our football team, volleyball teams, softball team, and individual cross country runners are all doing well and breaking records. If they are not breaking records, they are setting records. The board continues to praise and thank Superintendent Jared Hosmer for his leadership, and encourages the community and parents to work hand in hand to impress upon our youth how important school attendance is at this time. All things will move in the right direction as long as the kids are in school.”
