Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Eslberry announced last week that the county has purchased a 17′ tall Christmas Tree that will be erected in front of the Chattooga County Courthouse this Christmas season.

The commissioner says that the artificial pre-lit Christmas tree cost the county $7,969 and that the tree will be donated to Summerville Main Street, who will be responsible for maintaining the tree and will assist in the decoration of the tree.  Summerville Main Street Director Susan Locklear says that the city will be fencing off an area in front of the tree in front of the courthouse and that Santa will light the tree at the annual Summerville Christmas celebration.

The tree was manufactured by Wintergreen Corporation, based in Alpharetta, Georgia.
