Voters in Trion, Summerville and Menlo will be going to the polls on Tuesday of this week to vote in contested mayoral and city council elections.  There are some things voters need to remember when they go to vote:

Voters will need a photo ID to cast an in-person ballot. Valid forms of identification include a Georgia driver’s license, a passport, military photo ID, and ID from any federal or state body of government, a government employee photo ID, or tribal photo ID.

Provisional ballots

If a voter is unable to show one of the required forms of photo ID, or if his or her name doesn’t appear on the list of registered voters in the precinct, or when the voter first registered to vote in Georgia he or she registered by mail and did not provide identification at that time, a voter can cast a provisional ballot.

However, under Georgia law, any issues causing a voter to cast a provisional ballot must be remedied within three days of the election — Nov. 5 for this election.

Voter registration

Tuesday’s election is a far cry from the blockbuster presidential election and Senate runoffs of 2020, and so turnout is expected to be fairly low, despite coming at a time when more Georgians are registered to vote than ever before.

In August, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that 95% of eligible Georgians are registered to vote. In part, that’s due to a change made in 2016, when Georgia began automatically registering voters when they applied for or renewed their driver’s licenses.
