The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) opens today in Northwest Georgia for home-bound and elderly households.

The assistance is provided on a first-come, first-serve bases to qualified applicants.  It can help low-income Northwest Georgia residents with utility costs associated with heating their homes and can also – in some cases – provide money to help winterize a qualified person’s home.

The assistance is administered in Chattooga County by the North Georgia Community Action Office in Summerville. The office is located at 152 Senior Drive in Summerville and office hours are 8:30 AM – 5 PM.  You can reach the office by phone at 706-857-0729.

Home-bound households must have every member confined because of medical condition or disability.  Elderly households must have every member age 65 and older. Home heating assistance will be in the form of a single payment made directly to the energy supplier.
