Voters in three of Chattooga County’s municipalities went to the polls and voted for open city council seats and contested mayoral races. Check this story for updates on election results as they come in.
The Town of Lyerly did not have elections due to no one challenging the incumbent Mayor Jim Ferguson and the town council members.
In Summerville, voters were choosing between Incumbent Mayor Harry Harvey and businessman James Godwin. Also there were two contested city council seats. Incumbent Dana Windell Mosely drew a challenge for Eugene Cordell and Ricky Hughes and Lamonica Wilson faced off for the seat that was vacated earlier this year by Kristy Dennis. Voters in Summerville were also asked to vote on a packaged liquor referendum.
In Menlo, Incumbent Mayor Theresa Canada, who has been mayor in Menlo for three decades, drew a challenger for the first time in many years. Real Estate Agent Allan Keen was challenging the longtime mayor. Also, there was a contested race for Seat Two that was vacated by Cara Cabe after she moved outside the city limits. Menlo voters were also voting on a package liquor referendum.
In Trion, Incumbent Mayor Larry Stansell chose not to seek another term. City Councilman, and former Trion Mayor, Lanny Thomas was running for the position against Richard Greeson. Incumbent Town Councilman Jeff “Fro” Wilson drew a challenge from Casey Brown for Council Seat One. Incumbent Becky McWhorter was being challenged by Meagan Stowe Watson for Council Seat Two and Incumbent Seat Three Councilman Mickey McGraw was being challenged by Tony Day. Cindy Anderson and Bryant Dodd faced off for Seat Four.
