The deadline to pay your Chattooga County property tax for 2021 is fast approaching.  Taxes are due on December 1st; but, Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says that you may want to go ahead and get those taxes paid this week.

Hampton told WZQZ News on Wednesday that her office will be using new cloud-based software starting next week.  She said that while the new system will have some added benefits for her office, it may lead to slower processing time as her employees get used to the new system.  Hampton said, “If you want to avoid long lines when you come to pay your taxes, you may want to come in this week before we start using the new software.”

Hampton said that her office has collected just a little over a million dollars in taxes so far this year which is around 14% of the total.  The tax commissioner said that number is a little behind what is normally collected by this time of the year.  She added, that the county will see a big portion of the taxes come in when mortgage companies submit their payments from tax-payer’s escrow accounts – which is usually right before the due date.
