Several Chattooga FFA and 4-H students have been busy the last few months raising pigs in anticipation of an event that will be held this evening at the Chattooga County Agricultural Building on Middle School Drive in Summerville.

Students participating in the project this year are:  Lane Bridges, Trent Dawson, Lillie Dooley, Natalie Edwards, Raylan Hardin, Callen Kerce, Shelby Nutter, Tanner Nutter, Joshua Willingham, and Tate Whitlock.  The students received their pigs earlier this year from the University of Georgia Swine Program.

This evening at 6 PM, the students will have a livestock show that will be followed by an auction.  The hogs will be auctioned off with starting bids at $1 per pound.  The hogs will be transported to the processor by the Chattooga County Young Farmers.

“This will be a great opportunity to support the youth of our community,” said Lauren Jarrett, Chattooga County Young Farmer Advisor. “The proceeds will go to the students who purchased and raised the pigs and the buyers will get to stock their freezer with homegrown pork.”
