A Chattooga County woman who was indicted by a grand jury on murder charges and her attorney now is requesting that evidence be suppressed in the upcoming trial.

Fifty-three-year-old Renee Lanham is accused of shooting and killing her seventy-five-year-old husband on Butler Dairy Road.  At the time, Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News, “Mr. Lanham was shot to death in September of 2017 at his residence in what was made to look like a burglary. “My investigators and the Agents of the GBI have been thoroughly examining and collecting evidence in this case since we became involved with it. Just like in any case, they have followed the evidence and it has led them to Renee Lanham as the person who planned the murder of her husband and saw to it that those plans were followed through with. I am extremely satisfied with the work the investigators and GBI Agents have done and I’m glad to be able to bring a little closure to the rest of Mr. Lanham’s family”.

But Lanham’s attorney, Albert Palmour of Summerville, says that Lanham was not properly made aware of her Miranda rights and that she repeatedly asked for her attorney to be present when she signed a consent form to have her Miranda rights waived.

A judge will have to rule on the suppression of evidence at a later hearing.
