One mans decision to provide Summerville Police Officers with a false identity lead to him being arrested not once, but twice in the same day.
What started out as a potential stalking report ended with a mans arrest and then re-arrest within the same four hours last week. Summerville Police met with a woman at the Police Department who stated that she thought she was being followed. After giving a description of the male subject and the car, other Officers on patrol were able to make contact with the suspects vehicle. When Officers asked for a drivers license the driver stated that his name was Tobias Porter and he did not have a license. Porter also stated that he had spoken to the female subject at the gas station but denied following her. Officers placed Porter under arrest for driving without a valid drivers license and transported him to the Chattooga County Jail where he was booked.
A little more than four hours later, the arresting Officer was notified that Porters fingerprints had come back as not belonging to Tobias Porter but to a Jerome Rampey. The jailers stated that the misidentified man had also signed his bond using the name Tobias Porter. Officers traveled to Rampeys listed address where they met with him. Rampey admitted that he had actually given them his brother, Tobias Porter, in order to gain the bond. Rampey was also found to have active warrants out for him in Alabama. Officers placed Rampey back under arrested where he was transported back to the Chattooga County Jail and charged with forgery and giving a false name to law enforcement.
