Weather conditions across central and north Georgia are increasing the potential for wildfire. As a result, the Georgia Forestry Commission is temporarily suspending the issuing of burning permits at 12 noon today in specific Georgia counties.

Anyone planning to burn today, including the burning of yard debris and other hand-piled natural vegetation, is asked to delay outdoor burning until conditions change.

“Low relative humidity, coupled with increasing winds, is causing these potentially dangerous conditions,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Protection Chief Frank Sorrells. “They make fires more intense and difficult to control.” Sorrells said the protection of people and property is the agency’s top concern, and burning permits will
be issued again once favorable conditions return.
