Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton said that her office was extremely busy on Monday with the deadline to pay property taxes without penalty coming tomorrow, Wednesday, December 1st.

Hampton told WZQZ News that her office processed about 800 tax payments on Monday, and anticipates a busy day today and tomorrow.

Hampton said that some of the mortgage companies were running late getting the tax payments from escrow in to the Chattooga County Tax Office.  She said that one of the largest mortgage companies sent payments in on Monday.  Hampton says that you can check your tax bill online and see if your mortgage company has your taxes paid, and if they haven’t – you might want to give them a call today.

Property taxes are due by close of business day on Wednesday.
