Helping Hands Ending Hunger in Chattooga County said this week that they are “thrilled to be able to supply fresh venison to families through the Chattooga Co. Schools with our Live Healthy Chattooga/Hunters Ending Hunger Initiative!”.

The organization’s mission is to empower students to rescue uneaten food from school cafeterias to alleviate food insecurity, reduce waste, encourage education equity, and shape a better world.  Earlier this year, Helping Hands Ending Hunger announced an initiative where hunters could donate deer to be processed and distributed to those who need it.

Maisha Ludy with Chattooga Family Connection was able to get a grant to Helping Hands Ending Hunger that allowed local schools to purchase chest freezers to store the donate meat.  Local wild game processor Larry Weesner has been processing the deer that are donated at a reduced cost.

Helping Hands Ending Hunger says that Allison Agnew with the Northwest Georgia Cancer Coalition has been pivotal in brining about this initiative.
