Over the weekend, the Floyd County Police Department announced that they had arrested several men who were caught in an online child sex operation where police officers posed as underage children and the men agreed to travel to Floyd County for sexual activity.  Two Chattooga County men, one of them a teacher at Lyerly Elementary School, were arrested in the sting operation.

Adam Dewayne Broadrick, age 40 of Trion, was jailed for obscene internet contact with a child, sexual exploitation of a child, obstruction and criminal attempt to commit a felony.

Alan Bowman, 44 of Summerville, a second grade teacher at Lyerly Elementary School was also arrested. According to reports, Bowman engaged in graphic written conversations describing sex acts to a male he thought to be under the age of 16 years. Police added that a location was arranged to where Bowman was to meet the child and engage in sodomy. He was taken into custody at that location. Bowman is charged with sexual exploitation of a child, obscene internet contact with a child and criminal attempt to commit a felony.

Floyd County Police said,” The goal of Operation Safe Christmas was to arrest persons who communicate with children online and then travel to meet them for the purpose of having sex.” “Online child predators visit chat rooms and websites on the internet, find children, begin conversations with them, introduce sexual content and arrange a meeting with the children for the purpose of committing sexual acts with children under the age of 16. The children these predators target are both boys and girls.”

Police added, “During the multi-day operation, investigators had more than 200 exchanges with men on various social media or internet platforms. Many of those were exchanges in which the subject initiated contact with whom they believed to be a minor and directed the conversation towards sex.”
