Trion will have a new mayor this time next week, and the change will mark the end of nearly two decades of public service by current Mayor Larry Stansell. 

Stansell, a retired furniture businessman, has served as Mayor of Trion for the past eight years.  Before that, Stansell served as a councilman on the Trion Town Council.  The Trion Town Council recognized Stansell at their final meeting of 2021.

Stansell told the council members that he hoped to be remembered as a mayor that made decisions “based only on what was best for the town.”

Former Mayor and Councilman Lanny Thomas is set to be sworn is as Mayor of Trion in the New Year.
