Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters believes that he can save the county moneyby having waste hauled by a private carrier instead of the county hauling the waste themselves. In the previous administration Commissioner Mike Dawson had the county undertake the waste hauling as a money saving measure.
Winters admits that at the time it made sence for the county to haul its own waste to the landfill, but now he believes it will save money to change the process back to a private carrier. On Friday the commissioner opened bids from six local companies interested in providing the service.
Leroy Sweatman $8.35 per ton
Fulmer Trucking $11.25 per ton
Frank’s Trucking $9.75 per ton
Mike Dawson $12.27 per ton
Billy Woods $7.90 per ton
JKJ Trucking $11.00 per ton
Commissioner Winters said that he will make a decision and award the bid this week.
