Many school systems across Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama are seeing the spread of Coronavirus, the flu and colds and in addition to sick children, are dealing with staffing shortage.

Floyd County Schools announced that they will be closed Monday and Tuesday and Fort Payne City Schools announced they won’t be returning to in-person classes until Wednesday of next week.

Yesterday, the Chattooga County School System announced that Tuesday will be a distance learning day for students.

Jeff Martin with the Chattooga County School System told WZQZ News this week that school officials are hopeful that the long weekend will provide and opportunity for the children to be socially distanced and help stop the spread of sickness.

Martin also reminds parents to never send your child to school sick.  If a child has had a fever, parents should wait 24-hours before sending the child back to the classroom.
