Chattooga County’s only newspaper will be getting a new look, according to The Summerville News editor Gene Espy.  The weekly newspaper is being forced to change the size of the publication because the size of newsprint (paper) that they have used for decades, is no longer available.

Many newspapers made the switch to the narrower formatted paper that is now widely used years ago.  According to Forbes Magazine, many newspapers, including prominent dailies, like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, have adopted narrower page width to save on printing costs.

In last week’s edition of The Summerville News, Editor Gene Espy said that the local paper has looked as far away as the West Coast and Canada to find a supplier for the newsprint that local readers are familiar with, but there are no longer any companies producing the paper.

Espy said that the local weekly paper appreciates the public’s understanding about the new format.
