At their last meeting, the Chattooga County Board of Education made a change to the way the board members are compensated.

Local legislation says that board members are only allowed to make $100 a day.  In the past, the board was meeting twice a month with a work session and a board meeting.  The board has now combined those two meeting into one.

Supt. Jared Hosmer suggested that the pay be changed to compensate the board members $100 per day – instead of $50 per meeting.  Hosmer explained that if the board has a meeting and a school visit or other activity, board members will still only be compensated $100 per day.

Board Chairman Eddie Elsberry told WZQZ News, “To save money, on average we are capping it at $100 per day of meetings. Not $100 per meeting.”

The measure passed unanimously.
