The State of Georgia continues to be in the black with tax collections in January marking the seventh month in a row that the state has seen a positive increase in tax revenue.

The Georgia Department of Revenue announced the news on Friday.

Those large tax collections are allowing Governor Brian Kemp and the General Assembly to talk about ways they can spend the dollars and refund money to taxpayers in the Peach State.

The governor has proposed a $2,000 per-year raise for Georgia’s teachers and a $1,000 a year raise for school support staff.

Law enforcement could see a $5,000 per year raise with the extra tax revenue as well.

The state brought in about $2.95 billion last month, up $423.5 million, or 16.7%, compared to January of last year.
