A residential fire over the weekend is a reminder of the importance of smoke detectors in homes and the Trion Fire Department is urging people who do not have smoke alarms to contact their local fire department for assistance.

Trion Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire on Saturday morning on Trion-Teloga Road. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire in one bedroom.

The Trion Fire Department posted on social media:

“We would like to remind residents as the winter months are upon us, the temperature will plummet and there’s nothing like coming in from the cold. Maybe you’ll turn on a space heater for extra heat, use your fireplace, or wood stove to warm the room. Heating equipment is the second leading cause of house fires. Correct installation, maintenance, fueling and operation of portable/space heaters…as well as safely arranging household items around them greatly reduce the risk of experiencing a house fire. Also, remember to check smoke alarms once a month. If you do not have smoke alarms or have any questions, please contact us immediately.”
