The District Attorney in Madison County, Alabama says that he plans to seek the death penalty for a former Huntsville, Alabama police officer accused of murdering a Trion, Georgia woman.

David McCoy is accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend, twenty-six -year-old Courtney Spraggins in mid-January. McCoy was off-duty at the time and the murder occurred at the Weston Ranch Apartments in Huntsville, which is located in Madison County, Alabama.

Madison County District Attorney Tim Gann said, “You’ve got a young woman who has her life ahead of her and an unborn child,” Gann said. “Those facts in of itself and based upon how she was killed it is clearly a case we will seek the death penalty on.”

McCoy has reportedly admitted to pulling the trigger and killing Spraggins, but says that he doesn’t “remember how it happened.”

McCoy’s defense attorney Brian Clark said McCoy did not state he did it on purpose and says that the shooting “could have been an accident”.
