The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive today at the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce, located at the Civic Center on Highway 48 in Summerville.

Local blood banks now only have half a days’ worth of blood supply on the shelves. Red Cross officials said blood banks usually have at least five days’ worth of supply on the shelves, but for some blood types, they barely have any saved up anymore.  The Red Cross says that the blood donation crisis has resulted in the lowest supply ever.  Red Cross officials say that they are not seeing enough individual donations and are seeing a lot of no shows or canceled appointments, so they are urging businesses to host blood drives.

The Blood Drive at the Civic Center will be taking place this afternoon from 2 PM – 7 PM.
