Summerville Police were called to the scene of an accident inside the city limits on Highway 48 near Martin Street on Sunday.

According to police, a 2016 Freightliner ran off the road and struck several trees, damaging the truck and leaving the driver with a non-life-threatening injury.

The driver, identified as Tong Viet, age 47 of Venice, Florida, told police that he wasn’t sure what happened that caused him to run off the road and strike the trees.

Tong told police that he had hurt his hand in the accident and was transported to a Rome hospital by Redmond EMS.
