The State of Georgia has sold the former GBI Crime Lab in Trion to Chattooga County and plans are being made to move the sheriff’s office to the facility.   When the move takes place, the sheriff’s office will have some new equipment, thanks to a $54,000 grant.

The grant was obtained from the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.  The council says their mission is “to  financially and programmatically supports innovative programs and services to improve criminal justice and empower victims in the State of Georgia”.   Several times a year, opportunities for grants arise and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain a grant for a firearms simulation program.

The simulator is being built by Laser Shot in Texas and will be available sometime next year.  The equipment will allow deputies to train with firearms in a safe environment.
