A thirty-six-year-old Rome man was arrested last week after he was accused of stealing a gun and then choking a female victim.

Billy Joe Chambers II was arrested for stealing a firearm from a residence and then later pawning the gun for $150.  Chambers maintained that he “borrowed” the gun from the rightful owner.

In January, a woman accused of Chambers of placing his hands around her neck with the intent to strangle her.  The woman reportedly had visible injuries to her face an neck.

Police said that later Chambers ignored the conditions of his bond when he made contact with the victim when he went to make contact with them.

Chambers is charged with aggravated assault, felony theft by taking, battery, aggravated stalking, contempt of court, failure to appear, and two counts of probation violation.
