On Friday of last week, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed a bill that was sponsored by State Representative Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) that will realign Chattooga County’s Board of Education districts with the voting districts in the county.

The bill stipulates, “Those members of the Board of Education of Chattooga County who are serving as such on the effective date of this Act and any person selected to fill a vacancy in any such office shall continue to serve as such members until the regular expiration of their respective terms of office and upon the election and qualification of their respective successors.”

The bill was necessary to make the school districts the same as the voting districts in the county.

According to Chattooga County School Supt. Jared Hosmer, the new law will not affect very many residents of the county and will not affect the re-election races of any of the three board members who are anticipating running later this year.  However, some students who were near district lines may now be in a different school district under the new law.

The three seats that will be voted on this year are the seats held by Brad Hayes, Lynn Hall and Spencer. Hogg.
