The Sheriff’s Office in neighboring DeKalb County, Alabama is warning about a scam in which the caller says that they are employed by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Weldon says, “If you receive a phone call from telephone # 256-399-1457 – be aware! That number is being used by criminals claiming to be a deputy in the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office; they then tell their intended victim that they have a warrant and that they’ll need to send money or will be arrested. This is a SCAM!!”
“The Sheriff’s Office will never call anyone asking for money – nor will they call telling them they have a warrant for their arrest. DO NOT give out any personal information to these people.”
