An outside contractor working at the Walmart store in Trion has been accused of stealing from the store.

A Chattooga County Deputy met with Walmart loss prevention about the thefts.  The Walmart employee told the responding deputy that a contractor, identified as Demarcus Battles, took a cell phone charger off a locking peg and and placed it in his pocket.  Video of the incident shows the suspect walking over and placing the empty charger box on another shelf.  In a separate incident, Walmart says that video shows that Battles took an “air tag” off the shelf and cut the box open and took the item.  Again, on another date, Battles was videoed taking a video game.

All three thefts were recorded on the in-store surveillance system. The suspect always left the boxes the items came in because of the anti-theft devices placed inside on the packaging, according to the incident report from the sheriff’s office.

Chattooga County investigators are taking a warrant for Battles, accusing him of the thefts.
