Funeral services are set for this week for a Hays State Prison Chaplain who died in a tragic one-vehicle accident in Chattooga County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 1994 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 65-year old Joseph Eustace was traveling south on Penn Bridge Road south of Walker Street. The Jeep left the west side of the roadway, where it overturned, traveled down an embankment, and came to rest upside down partially submerged in the Chattooga River.
He was a Deacon of the Archdiocese of Atlanta and was currently serving at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome. His current ministry was working at Hays State Prison as a Chaplain. Through that ministry, he saw a number of converts receiving baptisms and confirmations. He served at the prison offering Communion Service weekly and Eucharistic Adoration monthly. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4410 where he was a Fourth Degree Knight.
