UPDATE THURSDAY 3:27 PM FROM SHERIFF MARK SCHRADER:

The pedestrian that was struck early this morning has since passed away. He was identified as Roger Christopher Bingham, age 47, of Trion.  The Georgia State Patrol Post 38 of Rome is the investigating agency.

According to information provided by the Georgia State Patrol, On Thursday, March 3rd at 2:56 am, Troopers from Post 38 in Rome responded to a crash on GA 1 just south of Underwood Drive, in Chattooga County.

A Ford Expedition traveling south on GA 1 struck two pedestrians as they were crossing GA 1 east to west.

One of the pedestrians struck was treated on scene and the other pedestrian was transported to Atrium Health Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

According to G.S.P., these are the preliminary findings as the crash is still under investigation.

The Georgia State Patrol says that a pedestrian that was struck near Wal-Mart in Trion died from their injuries.  Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News on Thursday afternoon that the family of the deceased person had been notified and that the Georgia State Patrol would be releasing the victim’s name sometime today.  According to Sheriff Schrader, the incident happened around 3 AM on Highway 27 near Wal-Mart.  WZQZ News will have more information as it becomes available.
